ESPN apologized Sunday for an inappropriate comment made Saturday following Texas Tech's victory over Oklahoma, according to USA Today.

As a camera panned over dejected Sooners fans, ESPNNEWS reporter Todd Grisham made a reference to the "trail of tears." The phrase is typically used to describe the Native Americans' journey after they were forced to leave the southeast and head for the midwest. The term is so named because of the many deaths that occurred as a result.

Grisham apologized on Twitter, even adding that he in fact has Cherokee roots in his own family. http://twitter.com/#!/todd_grisham/status/128115295549276161
