The Detroit Lions have signed former Chicago Bears safety Chris Harris, according to a tweet from ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Harris was released by the Bears earlier this week after he was benched for a string of poor performances. Reports claim that Harris had asked for permission to seek a trade earlier in the season, but eventually the club decided to release him instead.

The seven-year veteran spent four seasons with the Bears and amassed 416 tackles, 12 forced fumbles and 15 interceptions in his career. He will face his former team Nov. 13 when the Lions travel to Chicago to face their division rivals.
