Giants Pick Up Affeldt's 2012 Option

The San Francisco Giants have reportedly locked up a second left-handed relief pitcher, as they have exercised Jeremy Affeldt's $5 million club option for 2012. They reportedly re-signed Javier Lopez earlier Sunday.

Like Lopez, Affeldt has been an effective reliever for the Giants. Much of their success has come from their ability to keep the ball on the ground, as they were both among league leaders in ground ball outs.

After coming up with the Kansas City Royals as a starter in 2002, Affeldt has pitched for the Colorado Rockies and Cincinnati Reds prior to joining the Giants as a reliever in 2009.
