Derek Lowe has been traded from the Atlanta Braves to the Cleveland Indians, according to a Tweet from Sports Illustrated’s John Heyman.
According to Heyman, the Braves will likely still have to pay $10 million of Lowe’s $15 million salary in 2012. The team has reportedly received a minor-league pitcher in the deal.
Lowe signed a four-year $60 million deal with the Braves as a free-agent in 2009. The deal called for Lowe to earn $15 million each season.
Last year, despite being on a team that won 89 games, Lowe posted a league-high 17 losses while recording a 5.05 ERA in 34 starts. The previous season Lowe had 16 wins with a 4.00 ERA.
