Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Lamar Woodley has been named the AFC Defensive Player of the Month, according to a tweet from the team's official account.

Woodley helped the Steelers go 4-0 in the month of October after the team stumbled out of the gate to a 2-2 start. Over the course of the month, the 27-year-old recorded 7.5 sacks and one interception for a Pittsburgh defense that allowed no more than 20 points in a single game over the course of the month.

Woodley’s sacks resulted in a total of 57 lost yards for the Steelers’ opponents. He also registered 20 total tackles on the month.

This season the former Michigan Wolverine has 36 total tackles to go along with a team leading 9.0 sacks. Woodley receives the award today on his 27th birthday.
