Reports: Cuban Defector Yoenis Cespedes Expected to be Cleared for Free Agency

Highly touted Cuban center fielder Yoenis Cespedes is expected to be cleared for MLB free agency, after defecting mid-summer, Yahoo! Sports reports.

The talented left-handed pitcher is reportedly seeking a $30 million contract, similar to the deal that fellow Cuban pitcher and Cincinatto Red Aroldis Chapman received in 2010.

The New York Yankees are apparently interested in his services, according to a source that attended Cespedes’ open workout last week in the Dominican Republic. The source also compared Cespedes to the Los Angeles Angels’ top prospect, Mike Trout.
