University of Miami shooting guard DeQuan Jones will sit out of the upcoming basketball season while the NCAA investigates reports that he allegedly was recruited with the help of a $10,000 gift from a booster, the Associated Press reports.

According to a story that Yahoo! Sports released this summer, Miami coaches received $10,000 from former Miami booster Nevin Shapiro while Jones was being recruited.  Jones’ implication is one of many instances of possible NCAA violations that mostly involved the football program over a span of eight years.

The school announced that the senior will sit out this season as they “cooperate fully” with the NCAA.  The Hurricanes will play in their season opener on Friday against Tennessee Tech. Jones was a part-time starter averaging 4.5 points and 2.5 rebounds last season.
