The World Series Champion St. Louis Cardinals have named former catcher Mike Matheny as their new manager, filling the void left when Tony La Russa elected to step down following Game 7 of the World Series.

Matheny played for 13 seasons in the Major Leagues, including five with the Cardinals (2000-2004), where he played under La Russa. Matheny will be officially introduced on Monday, according to a tweet from the official feed of Major League Baseball.
