Cincinnati Reds' Juan Francisco Robbed At Gunpoint In The Dominican Republic

Cincinnati Reds third baseman Juan Francisco was robbed at gunpoint in the Dominican Republic on Tuesday, MLB.com reports.

Francisco, who is one of the many of South American players to return home to play in the winter leagues, was unharmed during the robbery. Reports claim that there were four assailants who robbed the MLB player.

"Juan lives in an apartment here in the capital [Santo Domingo], but [Tuesday] night after the game, he wanted to visit his parents in Bonao and was robbed at gunpoint," Fernando Ravelo, general manager of Licey, the team Francisco is playing for told the Associated Press. “But he wasn’t hurt,” he added.

This is the second of such criminal incident in Latin America involving Major League players. Recently, Washington Nationals catcher Wilson Ramos was kidnapped at gunpoint in his native Venezuela, but has since been rescued and was unharmed.

The 24-year-old Francisco spent the majority of the season in the minor leagues with Triple-A Louisville, but made 31 appearances for the Reds, tallying three home runs and 15 RBIs in that span.
