Oakland A's owner Lew Wolff would like to relocate the team to San Jose. The San Francisco Giants believe this impinges on their territorial rights. The situation has been at an impasse for years. Now, according to a report from Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com, MLB commissioner Bud Selig is attempting to resolve the issue.
Per Rosenthal, Selig has met with "top A's officials," and will meet with the Giants at some point in the next two weeks.
Selig will seek to find some way to convince the Giants to allow the move; barring that, Rosenthal suggests, MLB could purchase the A's from Wolff and find a buyer who believes the team can remain viable in Oakland, which Wolff does not.
The A's average home attendance of 18,232 was the lowest in the major leagues in 2011
, and is just over 50% of their stadium capacity. The Giants, meanwhile, averaged 41,818 attendees on average, just short of 100% of their stadium capacity of 41,915.
