New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera told the audience at a charity event Tuesday that he would soon know if he will require surgery on his vocal cords, according to the New York Post.

“It’s been a month. Every time I talk it gets worse and worse,” a raspy Rivera said Tuesday.
Rivera will meet with a doctor on Monday to determine the severity of his ailment, which might require a scraping of the vocal cords. It was not immediately clear if such a surgery would threaten Rivera's availability for spring training, but recovery time for vocal cord scraping tends to range from 3 to 6 weeks.
