Texans Place QB Matt Schaub IR, Sign QB Kellen Clemens

The Houston Texans have placed injured starting quarterback Matt Schaub on injured reserve, ending his season, according to a tweet from Adam Schefter.

Schaub sustained a right foot injury in the Texans’ 37-8 win over the Tampa Bay Bucanneers earlier this month. The Texans initially hoped Schaub could return, however he will undergo surgery on his foot and will not be available to return in time for a playoff run.

Matt Leinart will take over starting duties and the Texans have reportedly signed Kellen Clemens as a backup. Leinart has made limited appearances as a starter over the past four seasons with the Arizona Cardinals. The six-year-pro has 3,893 total yards, 14 touchdowns and 20 interceptions over his career.
