Kansas Fires Head Football Coach Turner Gill

Kansas head football coach Turner Gill has been dismissed from his duties, according to the university's official website.

Gill has been head coach at Kansas for two years; during that time the team is 5-19, which led to athletic director Sheahon Zenger's decision.

"After a thorough evaluation of our football program," Zenger said, according to KUathletics.com. "I have concluded that new leadership is necessary to place us on the path toward competing for championships in the Big 12 Conference. I come to this conclusion reluctantly, because I have the utmost respect forTurner Gill as a quality individual who wants only the best for the young men he coaches."

Recruiting coordinator Reggie Mitchell has been named interim head coach, and the current staff will "continue to recruit under [his] direction"
