Matt Leinart Will Undergo Season Ending Surgery On Broken Collarbone

The Houston Texans have confirmed today that Matt Leinart suffered a fractured collarbone in Sunday’s game and will require season ending surgery, according to ESPN.

Leinart had stepped in as the starter for injured QB Matt  Schuab who is out the remainder of the season with a broken foot.  The 28-year-old was hurt in the first quarter of the Texans’ 20-13 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars after having completed 10 of 13 passes for 57 yards and a touchdown.

Rookie T.J. Yates, who began the season as Houston’s third string quarterback, will now take over under center for the Texans. The 24-year-old completed eight of 15 passes for 70 yards in Sunday’s victory. He was drafted by the Texans in the fifth round of the 2011 NFL Draft out of North Carolina. The Texans also have signed veteran quarterback Kellen Clemens, who may also see snaps next week for Houston.
