Former Chicago Cubs third baseman Ron Santo has been elected to the Hall of Fame today by the newly-formed Golden Era Committee, according to MLB Trade Rumors.
The Golden Era Committee was established for players who were not elected to the Hall of Fame during their initial 15 years of eligibility. The Golden Era Committee is part of the Veterans Committee, which was established to consider those who are not eligible for induction by the Baseball Writers Association of America, including former managers, umpires, and league executives. Santo hit .277/.362/.342 with 342 home runs during his career. In 15-seasons, he was a nine-time All-Star and led the league in walks four times.
