Edmonton Oilers defenseman Andy Sutton has been suspended for eight games for his hit on Carolina’s Alexei Ponikarovsky, according to NHL VP, Player Safety Brendan Shanahan.

Previously, Sutton was suspended for five games on Nov. 1 for an illegal hit on Colorado’s Gabriel Landeskog. Sutton, 36, has played for seven teams (San Jose, Minnesota, Atlanta, New York Islanders, Ottawa, Anaheim and Edmonton) in his 15-year career. In 16 games for the Oilers this season, Sutton has one goal, two assists and 50 penalty minutes.
