Dallas Cowboys nose tackle Jay Ratliff got involved in a verbal confrontation with  ESPNDallas beat reporter Calvin Watkins on Thursday, a confrontation that had to be actively prevented from escalating from verbal to physical, according to Cowboys beat writer Mac Engel.

On Thursday, Watkins was asking Ratliff about the news regarding former Cowboys receiver Sam Hurd's arrest for drug trafficking. The chat went south quickly; suddenly I see Marcus Spears and Martellus Bennett pushing both Ratliff and Watkins in opposite directions. Some rather unfriendly, and unprintable, words were exchanged. Something like, "You stink." "No, you stink" ... only with saltier language, at a much higher volume.
Engel reports that Ratliff has long had an awkward relationship with the Dallas media, possibly tracing back to an undescribed "incident" when he was a teenager, but this level of conflict is unusual in any circumstances.
