Calgary Flames forward Rene Bourque faces a disciplinary hearing with the NHL’s Department of Player Safety Monday afternoon for his hit from behind on Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Brent Seabrook, NHL.com reports.
Late in the first period in Sunday night’s game Seabrook was sent headfirst into the boards on a hit from Bourque in the Blackhawks’ zone. Bourque was assessed a five-minute major and a game misconduct for the hit. Seabrook sustained an upper-body injury on the play and did not return.
Bourque does not have any prior history of league discipline, which is often taken into consideration when the Department of Player Safety reviews questionable on-ice plays. Seabrook has tallied one goal, eight assists for the Blackhawks and has a plus/minus rating of plus-six. Earlier this season Seabrook missed four games with a lower-body injury.
