The Sacramento Kings announced Monday that forward Chuck Hayes has failed his physical, and his contract would be voided, according to the Associated Press. Hayes had signed a 4-year deal worth over $21 million.
It was announced last week that Hayes' heart examination had revealed an abnormality. At the behest of Hayes, the team offered very little details concerning his condition, according to the report.
In a statement, Kings' general manager said that notifying Hayes of the fact that his contract would be voided was "one of the most heartbreaking moments of my professional or personal life."
Hayes, 28, averaged 7.9 points and 8.1 rebounds a game for the Houston Rockets last season.
