The Washington Nationals are close to signing free-agent infielder Mark DeRosa to a one-year, major-league contract, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

According to Rosenthal, DeRosa will serve as a utility infielder off the bench for Washington. He played first base, third base and second base last season. DeRosa, 36, has spent the last two seasons with the San Francisco Giants. He hit .279 with 12 RBIs in 47 games in 2011. In his career, DeRosa has hit .272 with 93 home runs.
