New York Jets' wide receiver Santonio Holmes was benched Sunday after arguing with teammates in the huddle during New York's 19-17 loss to the Miami Dolphins, according to ESPN.com.

Sources told ESPN that Holmes and offensive tackle Wayne Hunter were shouting at one another after Holmes said something that the other players resented. The source said that Holmes "quit" on the Jets.

"There were guys in the huddle not happy with Santonio's demeanor throughout the game and in the two-minute drill," Jets running back LaDainian Tomlinson told ESPN.com. "And they said something to him about it." The report also states that Holmes has developed a reputation as being someone who did not work hard throughout the week in advance of games. Holmes signed a five-year deal with the team before the season and was named a captain by head coach Rex Ryan.
