It had been widely speculated that the Chargers would fire both Turner and A.J. Smith after the Chargers failed to reach the playoffs for a second straight season. San Diego finished with an 8-8 record this season after a late season surge, the club finished with a 9-7 overall record last year. Turner has served as the head coach of the Chargers since 2007. Since taking over in San Diego he has led the team to a 48-31 record with a 3-4 postseason mark.
