McDaniels, 35, was formerly the Patriots offensive coordinator from 2006-2008. He left to be the head coach of the Denver Broncos in 2009 and spent last season as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in St. Louis. The job became open when Penn State hired Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien to be its new head coach.
