Report: Blue Jackets Fire Head Coach Scott Arniel
The Columbus Blue Jackets have fired head coach Scott Arniel, according to the Associated Press.
The firing comes after the Blue Jackets managed to muster a league worst 11-25-5 start to the 2011 NHL season. Assistant coach Todd Richards will serve as the club’s interim head coach for the remainder of the year.
Columbus had high hopes entering 2011-12, especially after the team made major acquisitions such as former Philadelphia Flyers star Jeff Carter. Carter, as well as other players Columbus acquired during the offseason, have not played as well as the Blue Jackets front office expected. Arniel was hired to takeover as the full-time head coach of the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2010 after the team had fired longtime head coach Ken Hitchcock. In his short stint with the Jackets, Arniel compiled a 45-60-18 record.
