The Texas Rangers have just signed pitcher Yu Darvish, and there was speculation that the team would go after free agent first baseman Prince Fielder. General manager Jon Daniels shot down that idea Wednesday.

"After going through this process, I'm intimately familiar with our budget," Daniels said, according to MLB.com. "It's very unlikely.

"I don't expect we'll do anything really big the rest of the winter. But we'll get the next few days under our belt, welcome Yu to Texas and then take a step back and look at things." Fielder and his agent Scott Boras met with the Rangers last week.
