The Boston Red Sox have made an offer to free-agent pitcher Edwin Jackson according to ESPN’s Jim Bowden’s official twitter account.

“Red Sox have made an offer for Edwin Jackson and are presently in discussions with him and prefer him over Roy Oswalt according to source,” the tweet read.

The Red Sox had also previously made an offer to free-agent pitcher Roy Oswalt for a one-year deal according to CBS Sports, however no decision has been made by Oswalt.  No other details about either potential deal have been disclosed. Last season, Oswalt went 9-10 with a 3.69 ERA in 23 starts for the Philadelphia Phillies.  Jackson went 12-9 with a 3.79 ERA in 32 games (31 starts) between the Chicago White Sox and Cardinals last season.
