Haley had previously served as the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs before being fired midway through the 2011 season. Overall he led the Chiefs to a 19-27 record during his three year stint with Kansas City. In 2010 the club posted an AFC West leading 10-6 record.

Haley will replace Bruce Arians who took a job with the New York Jets this offseason.
