The Oakland Athletics announced Tuesday that they were extending the contract of general manager Billy Beane, according to the Associated Press.

A's owner Lew Wolff said that GM Beane and team president Michael Crowley's contracts will be extended through the 2019 season, according to the report. Beane has been Oakland's GM since 1997, and his tactics for building a winning small market team were outlined in Michael Lewis' Moneyball, which was later made into a major motion picture.
