Kobe Bryant made headlines earlier this week when he expressed ambivalence about Jeremy Lin, saying he had no idea what the young New York Knicks phenom had accomplished. He learned his lesson.

Now there's another legendary Los Angeles Lakers guard with an opinion on Linsanity: Jerry West, who gushed about Lin today to Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News.

"My God," West said. "He’s a tremendous player."

Of course, West played a role in Lin's development -- it was West's Golden State Warriors who gave Lin his first shot in the NBA, but even the Warriors had no idea what the Harvard man was capable of becoming. "I thought he was a very good player, but as I’ve watched him, it’s like a Cinderella story," West said. "Really a feel-good story, how hard he’s worked, how dedicated he’s been. Obviously his parents have been very supportive of him. I watched him play last night and I said to myself, ‘Jesus Christ Almighty, where’d this guy come from?’"
