ESPN has released a statement apologizing for the offensive headline on its mobile site last night referencing Jeremy Lin.

"Last night, ESPN.com's mobile web site posted an offensive headline referencing Jeremy Lin at 2:30 am ET," wrote ESPN's Kevin Ota. "The headline was removed at 3:05 am ET. We are conducting a complete review of our cross-platform editorial procedures and are determining appropriate disciplinary action to ensure this does not happen again. We regret and apologize for this mistake."

The mobile site used the headline "Chink In The Armor" to refer to Lin's first loss as an NBA starter, an 89-85 setback at home last night to the New Orleans Hornets. As Deadspin has noted, this isn't the first time ESPN has used that exact racial slur in a headline -- the site used a nearly identical headline in 2008 at the Beijing Olympic Games.
