Cincinatti Bengals running back Cedric Benson will likely not be re-signed by the team, according to Fox Sports.
“We haven’t had any talks about a new deal, re-signing or anything like that to my knowledge,” Benson told Sirius XM NFL Radio, according to Fox. “I’m not sure where things are laying up there in Cincinnati.”
Benson will officially become an unrestricted free agent on March 13 when the NFL signing period begins.
The 29-year-old may have strained his relationship with the team when he was forced to serve a one-game suspension last season after an offseason arrested resulted in misdemeanor assault charge. It was his second such charge in two seasons. The NFL had initially suspended Benson for three games but the penalty was reduced on appeal.
Despite his off-the-field issues, Benson has rushed for 5,769 yards and 31 touchdowns in his seven-year NFL career. In 2011 he rushed for 1067 yards and six touchdowns.
