The St. Louis Cardinals and catcher Yadier Molina are nearing an agreement on a multi-year extension worth over $10 million per year, according to Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

A source tells Strauss that "positive momentum" has been achieved in negotiations between the Cardinals and Molina's agent, Melvin Roman. If completed, the deal would make Molina the seventh catcher in baseball history to make over $10 million annually.

While the contract is not yet a done deal, a source told Strauss that both sides want the matter resolved before the Cards begin their exhibition schedule on March 5, a week from today. Molina has won the National League's catching Gold Glove four years running. He's a .274 career hitter in eight seasons with St. Louis.
