Yahoo! Sports has learned that suspended Auburn University point guard Varez Ward is under investigation by federal authorities in an ongoing point-shaving probe.

Three sources told Yahoo's Charles Robinson that the FBI has been investigating Ward since late February after he and guard Chris Denson were suspended two weeks ago. Specifically, two games are being scruitinized by officials -- a 68-50 Auburn loss to Alabama on Feb. 7 and a 56-53 loss to Arkansas on Jan. 25.

Ward and Denson were suspended before the Arkansas game due to a "violation of team rules."

While no one at the university has yet commented on the allegation publicly, Tigers head coach Tony Barbee did say last week when suspending Denson that the young guard needed to be disciplined. “Kids have to learn a lesson,” Barbee said. “It’s bigger than sports. It’s about life. Sports -- including what we do, basketball -- is a great opportunity and a great vehicle to teach these kids life lessons. He had to suffer the consequences for some bad decisions.”
