Former San Diego Chargers running back Mike Tolbert has signed a four-year contract with the Carolina Panthers, according to ESPN.

Joel Turner, Tolbert’s agent, told the Associated Press that his client “left over $1 million on the table from San Diego—that’s how bad he wanted to play there [in Carolina].”

Carolina’s running backs include DeAngelo Williams and Jonathon Stewart. Williams signed a contract to return to the team last offseason and Stewart is heading into the final season of his rookie contract. With Willams and Steward still on the roster this upcoming season, Tolbert’s role in the current Carolina backfield is still unclear. Last season with the Chargers, the 26-year old Tolbert rushed for 490 yards with eight touchdowns.
