The San Francisco 49ers and quarterback Alex Smith have agreed to a new deal, according to several reports. The 49ers were once reportedly in play for Peyton Manning, who ended up signing with the Denver Broncos.

Smith spent Sunday meeting with the Miami Dolphins, and it was reported that he entered contract negotiations with the team. Last season in San Francisco, Smith had his best year as a pro, throwing for 3,144 yards and 17 touchdowns. Smith led the 49ers to the NFC Championship game under first-year head coach Jim Harbaugh.
