Rubio tore his anterior cruciate ligament on March 9 with 16 seconds left in the game against the Los Angeles Lakers. The rookie point guard will not return this season as ACL injuries typically take about nine months to heal. The Timberwolves, however, are optimistic he will return at full strength next season. In the 41 games this year, Rubio was averaging 10.6 points, 8.2 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game. Without the flashy play of their Spanish rookie, the Timberwolves (23-24) are trying to stay in the playoff picture as the Houston Rockets (25-22) currently fill the last playoff spot in the Western Conference.
