The three groups are:

  • A group that includes former Lakers star Magic Johnson and former Braves and Nationals president Stan Kasten.
  • Stan Kroenke, whose family owns parts of the St. Louis Rams, Denver Nuggets and Colorado Avalanche.
  • Steven Cohen, founder of SAC Capital Advisors and limited partner of the Mets, agent Arn Tellem and entrepreneur Patrick Soon-Shiong.
The auction will be conducted by Blackstone Group, Frank McCourt’s financial adviser. Marc Ganis, president of consulting firm Sportscorp, said the front-runner should be Cohen, according to ESPN.com.
