The Carolina Panthers have signed safety Reggie Smith, according to team’s official website.

"Reggie has been on our radar since the beginning of free agency and is a player we think can come in and compete at safety," Carolina Panthers general manager Marty Hurney said. "We brought him in for a visit Tuesday, and it worked out. He is another player we've added to increase the competition."

Smith, 25, recorded 15 tackles and one interception in 16 games off the bench for the San Francisco 49ers last year. Smith is in his fifth year out of Oklahoma. He had previous played his entire career for the San Francisco 49ers. His best season came in 2010 when he had 42 tackles and one interception.
