Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith has agreed to a contract extension, according to Pro Football Weekly.

The deal will keep Smith in Carolina through 2015 with an option for 2016. Pro Football Weekly reports that Smith is slotted to earn $7.75 million in 2012, but that amount may grow as it is believed that the new extension has front loaded money into his deal.

Smith’s original contract expired following this season. Last season Smith hauled in 79 passes for 1,394 yards and seven touchdowns. His best season came in 2005 when he had 103 receptions for 1,563 yards and 12 touchdowns. The 32 year old has 699 career receptions and 59 career touchdowns.
