Just last week, it was reported that head coach Brian Kelly expected Lynch to return to the team. As a freshman last season, Lynch led the Fighting Irish with five sacks and would have been one of the most experienced defensive linemen on the roster going into next season. According to SB Nation, Lynch, a Florida native, has dealt with homesickness at Notre Dame; his mother moved to Ohio to be closer to him. Coming out of high school, Lynch was ranked the third-best defensive end and 28th overall player in the 2011 recruiting class.
