Smith, 60, just finished his fifth season at Minnesota, going 23-15. He has also coached at Tulsa, Georgia and Kentucky. At Kentucky, he compiled a 263-83 record with three NCAA Elite Eight appearances in 10 seasons. LSU has been looking for a coach after Trent Johnson left to take the head coaching job at TCU. In four seasons at LSU, Johnson was 67-62 overall and 25-39 in the Southeastern Conference.
