Professional Soccer Player, 25, Dies During Match

Piermario Morosini, a midfielder for Italian League club Livornia, died Saturday during a match at Pascera, according to the Associated Press. The apparent cause of the 25-year-old's death is cardiac arrest.

Cardiologist Edoardo De Blasio confirmed the news to the AP Saturday.

"Unfortunately he was already dead when he arrived at hospital," De Blasio said, according to the report. "He didn't regain consciousness."

The report states that Morosini fell to the turf in the game's 31st minute and failed to get up despite several attempts. Doctors spent more than an hour trying to revive him in the hospital, to no avail. The game was suspended with Livornia holding a 2-0 lead.
