In a D.C. radio interview on April 4, Washington Nationals pitcher Tyler Clippard guaranteed that his team will make the playoffs this year, according to Dan Steinberg of the Washington Post.

“Well, I mean, ideally we would like to win the division,” Clippard said on 106.7 The Fan’s Sports Junkies program. “I think this year the NL East is probably going to be the tightest grouping of teams at the top in baseball…”

When asked whether he thinks the Nationals will make the playoffs this year, Clippard responded “Ok, I guarantee that we will be in the playoffs.” Thus far, the Nationals have started out strong with a 7-3 record, on top of the National League East Division.  In yesterday’s game, Clippard, who is dealing with shoulder discomfort, gave up three runs in the 11th inning to give the Nationals their third loss of the season.
