Washington Capitals fans looked to mock Boston Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas last night at the Verizon Center by bringing giant Barack Obama cutout heads, Yahoo! Sports reports.

The cutouts were in response to Tim Thomas refusing to join his teammates on a trip to the White House this year to celebrate the Bruins’ 2010-11 Stanley Cup championship. Thomas is a strong supporter of the Tea Party, and later said that his refusal to participate in the ceremony was a result of his political beliefs.

“I believe the Federal government has grown out of control, threatening the Rights, Liberties, and Property of the People,” Thomas posted on his Facebook account about the incident in January.

“This is being done at the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial level. This is in direct opposition to the Constitution and the Founding Fathers vision for the Federal government.”

Thomas may have had the last laugh, however, as the Bruins defeated the Capitals 4-3 last night to take a 2-1 series lead.
