Byrd, 34, is making $6.5 million this season but is off to a dismal start, going 3-for-43 (.070) early on. With outfielders Jacoby Ellsbury and Carl Crawford on the disabled list, however, the Red Sox need outfielders and have been vocal about trying to find help.
