A source told Rob Bradford of WEEI.com that Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia is targeting next Monday as the day he will determine whether he can play with his injured right thumb or whether he will go on the disabled list.

Pedroia, who has a slight tear in the abductor muscle in his thumb, took a few swings on Tuesday but will not touch a bat for the next few days to allow the swelling to go down. He has been fitted for two braces -- one for batting and one for the rest of the day.
