The Boston Red Sox placed veteran outfielder Scott Podsednik on the 15-day disabled list with an injured groin and activated Cody Ross. Ross has been sidelined since May 18 with a fractured foot.

Ross will bat seventh on Tuesday night against the Miami Marlins and will be in left field. Ross gives the Red Sox flexibility because he has played all three outfield positions this season. The Red Sox now have five outfielders on the DL.

Podsednik is batting .387 with one home run and seven RBI in 62 at-bats this season. He also has six stolen bases since his recall in late May. Boston starts the day last in the AL East at 33-33, eight games behind first-place New York.
