On Tuesday, we reported that free-agent point guard Deron Williams had narrowed his list down to two teams (the Brooklyn Nets and the Dallas Mavericks), and that both had publicly wished him a happy 28th birthday on Tuesday.
Now come reports that Williams appears to be leaning toward re-signing with the Nets. Ken Berger of CBSSports.com reported on Tuesday that five sources told him that that Mavericks "are becoming increasingly worried" that Williams will stay in the Northeast.
On Wednesday, Chris Broussard of ESPN.com reported that Nets coach Avery Johnson was one of only eight or so people who attended an intimate birthday dinner for Williams; that Williams ducked into Nets general manager Billy King's press conference on Wednesday morning; and that he has been working out almost daily at the Nets' practice facility. Sources also tell Broussard that Williams has discussed strategies for next season with Johnson.
