Padres place RHP Andrew Cashner on disabled list with strained right lat

The San Diego Padres put their seventh starting pitcher of the season on the disabled list on Wednesday when hard-throwing righthander Andrew Cashner was sidelined with a strained right lat.

A 23-year-old with a fastball that has registered triple digits, Cashner hurt himself while warming up before the bottom of the third inning of Tuesday's game.

Two other Padres pitchers who had similar injuries -- closer Huston Street and lefthander Eric Stults -- were able to return after about a month's time. “With Huston and Eric, there are parallels, absolutely, and those guys were out between 20 and 30 days,” manager Bud Black. “We’ll know more in a week to 10 days, but all the indicators of the first 24 hours are what those guys also felt.”
