Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte agreed to a contract with the team on Monday, according to the Chicago Tribune. The Bears had until 4 p.m. to come to a deal with Forte or he was going to play under the franchise tender of $7.74 million.

The deal is for four years at about $8 million per season.

Forte had originally sought a five-year, $40 million contract with about $20 million guaranteed. At the start of last season, the Bears offered Forte a deal worth $15 million guaranteed and $6 million per season.

Forte averaged 4.9 yards per carry last season, while rushing for 997 yards and three touchdowns in 12 games. He also caught 52 passes for 490 yards and one touchdown.
